Arch Intern Med -- Abstract: Electronic Health Records and Clinical Decision Support Systems: Impact on National Ambulatory Care Quality, May 23, 2011, Romano and Stafford 171 (10): 897

It appears that more than an EHR + a clinical decision support system is needed to improve quality. Discouraging news, but raises the interesting question of why not?

  1. I think we need more than just EHR and decision support system alone. There are so many changes required in the system to increase the quality of care delivered. In addition, the use of EHR and clinical decision support system is still an art form being developed and tested. It will be interesting to see where this heads to in the next decades.
